Creating a LinkedIn profile or webpage that presents the most confident you is all about your word choices!
Make sure you avoid these culprits…
I believe…
Delete this and start your sentence from the next word. This will present your ‘belief’ as a confident fact that you know from your years of experience and expertise.
EXAMPLE:
Replace: I believe sustainability should be at the core of everything we do.
With: Sustainability is at the core of everything we do.
I had the opportunity to…
Re-focus your sentence on the impact YOU had within that role, rather than the impact the role had on you.
EXAMPLE:
Replace: I had the opportunity to work with leading organisation Star Corp…
With: Working with leading organisation Star Corp, I developed…
I help…
This can work in the context of ‘helping’ your client, but in a team scenario replace with a more proactive verb such as ‘I deliver’, ‘I collaborate’ or ‘I support’.
EXAMPLE:
Replace: I helped the marketing team to increase ROI by 30%.
With: Collaborating with the marketing team, I delivered a 30% increase in ROI.
but…
Try replacing the ‘but’ in your sentence with a full stop and make the next word the start of a new sentence. This keeps a more positive, confident tone.
EXAMPLE:
Replace: My specialism lies in project management, but I also develop systems to improve productivity.
With: My specialism lies in project management. I also develop systems to improve productivity.
My passion…
Delete any reference to how passionate you are and focus instead on your expertise and experience in that subject – this will demonstrate your passion more actively.
EXAMPLE:
Replace: My passion for refurbishing heritage buildings led me to specialise in the sector.
With: With expertise in the heritage sector, I specialise in protecting the past while ensuring relevance for the future.
